DAY 01: ARRIVAL AT AIRPORT – TIRANA (20 km 30 min)

Welcome in Tirana Airport!

Meet the local host during your stay and transfer to hotel in Tirana: transfer (considering traffic) – 40min

Upon arrival, check in at the hotel 

Panoramic, walking tour of Tirana – the main Italian influenced boulevard, the National Historic Museum, the Bunker, Pazari i Ri (New bazar – where you can see a green market, fishops and also taste artisanal ice creams)  

Visit of National Historic Museum. If you want to know the turbulent history of the Albanians, from Prehistory up to Communism Period, this is the place to visit. The National History Museum is the most important museum in Albania and contains a well-documented history of the country.

Dinner and overnight in TIRANA 

DAY 02: TIRANA – KRUJA – SHKODRA (130km – 3hrs)

Breakfast in the hotel, check out and depart to Kruja hill town, The second most visited town in Albania, a typical ottoman town with a very interesting and lively bazar where you can see live how the people still work on the crafts which they sell on spot. You may visit the Fortress; Historic Museum dedicated to national hero Scanderbeg and Ethnographic Museum to understand better the way of living in the northern part of Albania.  The city’s famous bazaar serves as a bridge between this glorious past and the present, offering a rich array of traditional products made from local artisans. This centuries-old tradition is still alive because of the artisans’ pure love and devotion to the craft

Free time for visiting bazar or shopping 

Board the bus and transfer for optional lunch in an amazing agritourist farm: Mrizi i Zanave in the village of Fishte. Is not just a meal, is a pure show of the Albanian cuisine, brought in table directly form the land in the finest way.

Continue our drive to Shkodra (1h30min)

Upon arrival, you may visit Rozafa Fortress. From its ancient Illyrian walls and the medieval ruins of the Balshaj, to the Towers of the Bushatllinj, Rozafa Castle is a monumental testament to the beauty of an everlasting fortress. It is surrounded by the waters of three rivers; the Drini, Buna, and Kiri, and it offers an amazing panorama of rivers and Shkodra Lake from the top of the fortress.

DAY 03:  SHKODER – THETH (80km – 3hrs) 

Breakfast in the hotel, check out and drive by 4x4cars to Theth National Park, with stop en route for refreshments. On the way to Thethi an optional stop could be at Qafe e Thores, at the highest point of the way to Thethi at 1700 m, where you can enjoy the view of the high peaks around, have a coffee or drink at Buni i Bajraktarit, a touristic complex placed there.

Upon arrival, check in at the hotel, time to relax and lunch. 

Start with a 40-minute walk by visiting the Church and the Grunas waterfall. It is a natural attraction, 30 meters high. All its water derives entirely from a rock and from snow water. Afterward, we have a short visit to the “Kulla” (tower) of Theth. There, men would hide for protection from families with whom they were engaged in a blood feud. Meanwhile, they would try to find a “peaceful” solution between the families. Locally they call this impressive stone tower as Kulla e Ngujimit (lock-in tower).

 We recommend visiting:    

– the Grunas waterfall, which is around 45 min. walking from the village (one-way)

– the canyon, around 20 minutes walking from the waterfall (one-way)

– the lock-in tower (“Kulla e Ngujimit”, located in the village)

Dinner and overnight in THETH    

DAY 04:  THETH (hiking)

Breakfast in the hotel, and start the walking tour first to the Stone Groves of Nderlysa, some rock formations, rose color, created by the abundant flow of black river water descending from the village of Kaprre in Thethi valley, which are the first attraction we will see after 90 min easy walking in the middle of nature along Thethi’s river. After a short break here, the tour will proceed toward the Blue Eye, for 50 min moderate hiking.

Blue Eye of Theth, placed in Kaprre, is a deep blue water hole in the middle of the woods furnished from the Black River. Until the Blue Eye is a pedestrian route and takes about 40 to 60 minutes of regular walking 

We recommend visiting:    

– The Stone Groves of Nderlysa

– the Blue Eye, which is around 2,5 hours walking from the  village (one-way). It is possible to go there by car

DAY 05:  THETH– KOLASIN/MONTENEGRO (170km – 5hrs)

Breakfast in the hotel, check out and depart to Kolasin/MONTENEGRO 

Drive towards Mondenegro border of Hani i Hotit, with stop en route for refreshments. Please note the border procedures. Guest should keep their Passports handy 

Proceed driving to Kolasin (2hrs), with stop en route for Lunch

Optional Tour – Boat trip in Skadar Lake (1h)

The Skadar Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the Balkans. The lake is divided by two countries, Montenegro and Albania. Furthermore, it also represents an important natural monument. The lake is famous for its variety of flora and fauna as well as for the mutual vicinity of different animal hunting grounds and their food chains. Experience Lake Skadar’s magic on a boat cruise that will blow you away. 

Drive from Virpazar to Kolasin (2hrs)

DAY 06:  KOLASIN – BIOGRADSKA GORA – TARA BRIDGE – ZABLJAK (3h)

Breakfast in the hotel, check out and depart to Biograska Gora and explore the National Park 

The rainforest, which covers 1,600 hectares of the park, is one of only three remaining virgin forests left in Europe, and trees in the forest are up to 60m tall and 400 years old. it’s rich in biodiversity with 2,000 plant species, 200 bird species, 80 species of butterfly, 350 insect species as well as mammals like wolves, bears, foxes, deer, squirrels and dormice. 

Walk around Lake Biograd. Lake Biograd is the biggest and most accessible of the six glacier lakes in the park and there’s an easy 3.5km walk around the lake.

Continue driving to Tara Bridge. 

Stop for pictures and a nice walk through the famous bridge on Tara River, which offers majestic views over the canyon. Completed in 1940, the Tara crossing is the highest and largest bridge in the region and includes an approach viaduct of 4 arches leading to a main span span of 140 meters). One of the deepest canyons in the world, the Tara River gorge snakes along 78 km of a total river length of 144 kms. (Time for lunch)

Proceed to Durmitor National Park (Zabljak) 

After accommodation at the hotel, you may enjoy an afternoon walk in famous Durmitor National Park (Black lake). The Black Lake lies an easy 3km walk from the town of Zabljak. The lake is divided into two lakes called Veliko Jezero (great lake) and Malo Jezero (small lake) connected by a narrow straight. The great lake has a depth of 25 m while the small lake is a massive 49m deep, so by volume, the little lake is actually bigger! There is a 3.5km trail that runs around the lake and which should take 1.5hrs to walk around.

Dinner and overnight in ZABLJAK

DAY 07:  ZABLJAK – KOTOR – BUDVA (195km – 3.5hrs)

Breakfast in the hotel, check out. Today we’ll drive to Kotor, with several stops on the way for pictures and refreshments 

Upon arrival, free time for lunch 

Start the walking tour of Kotor Old Town (UNESCO Heritage Site). Kotor is a beautiful walled medieval city of twisting, pink-paved streets, markets and architecture reflecting Byzantine to Venetian influences. The guide will take you through the main gate of old town Kotor and will visit first the medieval fortune tower on Kotor Main Square (Trg od oruzja – The place of arms) with a stone pyramid used as a pillory. Proceed through narrow streets to St. Triphon’s piazza and visit St. Thripun’s cathedral (11th century). 

After the visit, we will enjoy some free time for shopping 

Continue driving to Budva (40 min)

Stroll around the old town of Budva – free time 

Budva’s Old Town lies on a small peninsula and represents a treasure chest of culture heritage. Crossed with narrow streets and squares are famous buildings, the Church Sv. Trojica, housing the tomb of the exquisite writer Stjepan Mitrov Ljubisa, the Churches of Sv. Ivan, Sv. Bogorodica and Sv. Sava. Once a small and quiet coastal town, today, Budva is a metropolis of Montenegrin tourism and one of the loudest and most packed towns at the Montenegrin coast during the summer. Its life began on the headland two and a half millennia ago and has poured out of the ramparts towards luxurious yachts, new buildings, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs where amazing fun awaits

DAY 08: BUDVA – NJEGUSI – LOVCEN NP – PODGORICA (3h30min)

Today after the breakfast and check out of the hotel, we’ll drive through the most amazing views will be from the serpentine road from Kotor to Njegusi. You can make short stops for memorizing the beauty fiord of Bay of Kotor. 

Visit Njegusi village, which is known for its specialties such as prosciutto, domestic cheese and delicious mead. During the excursion, break or lunch in the village for wine tasting, buying local specialties and souvenirs.

Continue your drive to Lovcen National Park 

Lovćen’s star attraction is the magnificent mausoleum, which sits at the top of its second-highest peak, Jezerski Vrh (1657m). Take the 461 steps up to the entry where two granite giantesses guard the tomb of Montenegro’s greatest hero. Inside under a golden mosaic canopy, a 28-ton Petar II Petrović Njegoš rests in the wings of an eagle, carved from a single block of black granite.

Proceed driving to Podgorica (1hour)

The name originates in 1326 and it is built amongst five rivers, the Zeta, Moraca, Ribnica, Cijevna and Sitnica. Most of the city was destroyed during WW II, so Podgorica is relatively new, with modern buildings at every step of the way and green spaces as well as parks. Cultural and historic monuments in and around Podgorica are old part of the city Sahat-kula (Clock tower); Millennium bridge; and the big Church of Christ’s Resurrection
