SOUTH OF AUSTRIA

 

DAY 1                VIENNA

 

Arrival in Vienna and meet & greet with the guide. Transfer to the hotel and check
in. In the evening, we will enjoy a get together dinner at one of the typical wine taverns in Neustift am Walde or Nussdorf or Grinzing, the wine-growing districts of Vienna.

 

DAY 2                VIENNA

 

In the morning we will discover the city on a panoramic tour with a drive along the
Ringstrasse, Vienna’s main boulevard, passing by the Hofburg Palace, the Opera House, the twin museums – Fine Art History Museum and Nature History Museum,
Parliament, City Hall, Votiv Church, St Charles Church, Musikverein which houses the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the monument of Johann Strauss, father of the Waltz. Visit of the Gardens of Belvedere Palace.

 

Afterwards we will continue our visit on a walking tour through the old town, which will us to the St Stephan’s Cathedral, Mozart Residence and the old Jewish Quartier. We will end the tour having a coffee break in a typical Viennese coffee house to enjoy a coffee accompanied by the famous Sacher Cake.

 

Afternoon free at leisure, where you will have the opportunity to visit the Schönbrunn Castle and enjoy a Viennese evening with a concert featuring the classical masterpieces of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss, two of Vienna’s most famous citizens.  

 

DAY 3            VIENNA – EISENSTADT – RUST –GRAZ

We start today our tour departing to Eisenstadt, seat of the Esterhazy Family, who was one of the wealthiest aristocratic families in Central Europe and benefactor of many artists, like the classic music composer Joseph Haydn, whom the main ball room of the palace is dedicated to. We will visit the Esterhazy Palace and will have free time to stroll around the mainstreet.

We head to the beautiful town of Rust, on the shores of Lake Neusiedl and famous for its storks’ nests, which old town was declared World Heritage by UNESCO due to perfect balance between natural life and human action. The town’s highlights are the Evangelist Church and the Fisher Church, the City Hall, the Kremayr House and the architecture set Seehof.

Afterwards we continue to Graz.

DAY 4               GRAZ

On our city tour we will discover the top 10 highlights of Graz, starting on a drive with the mountain railway to Schlossberg, from where we will enjoy the view over the old town as well as its main landmark, the Clock Tower. Coming down we will stroll around the cathedral of Graz or the Mausoleum nearby, the Landeszeughaus armoury and the Glockenspiel to the Mur Island, a futurist view platform on the river. Afternoon free to enjoy this pulsating city.

DAY 5            GRAZ – KLAGENFURT – VELDEN AM WÖRTHERSEE

We continue our tour to the Hochosterwitz Fortress. Built between the 14th and 15th centuries on top of a hill, the fortress’ main landmark are the 14 walled gates which open up to the armoury yard.  We continue to Klagenfurt for a walking tour passing by its Italian palaces and cultural treasures such as the Coat of Arms Hall, the Carinthian Museum of Modern Art, the Klagenfurt City Theatre or the romantic Lendkanal, which leads directly to Lake Wörther. There we will take a boat to cross to the opposite shore, disembarking in Velden am Wörthersee, the Austrian Riviera and meeting point of the country’s jet set.

DAY 6            VELDEN AM WÖRTHERSEE – VILLACH– LIENZ

Our tour takes us to Villach, where we will enjoy freetime to stroll through the old town, its squares, narrow streets and discover
interesting stores. Then we will arrive in Lienz, a picturesque East Tyrolean
village. In the afternoon we will delve into the customs of East Tyrol with a workshop
/ fashion show of traditional costumes, which will introduce us to this
fascinating textile world.

DAY 7                 LIENZ – GROSSGLOCKNER – INNSBRUCK

Today we will enter Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner, traveling along its alpine road. Opened in 1935, this 48 km road that crosses the Hohe Tauern National Park has become an exhibition about the mountain world, its fauna and flora and offers spectacular views over the surrounding glaciers.

DAY 8              INNSBRUCK

After breakfast we will go on a walking tour through the old town. The middle Ages meet the 21st century where charming little alleys meet the broad promenade of Maria-Theresien-Straße and The Golden Roofthe Hofkirche, traditional inns and the Imperial Palace bring history to life. We will continue to Bergisel, the Olympic
ski jumping site which offers us breathtaking views over the city and the mountain walls. Afternoon free at leisure.

In the evening we will gather together for the last time to enjoy a farewell dinner with typical cuisine and folklore dances.

DAY 9             INNSBRUCK

After breakfast and at the appointed hour, transfer to Airport of Innsbruck.
